Reading Counts is a program through Scholastic in which students are challenged to read books at their lexile level. At the beginning of the school year and at the end of every trimester, students take a test to measure their reading levels. The average lexile score for a student in 5th grade is between 700 to 1000. Students will read books at their lexile levels and will take online quizzes to demonstrate their understanding. Once they pass the quiz, points are earned based on the difficulty of the text.
Students should have at least 40 points accumulated for each trimester. Quizzes may be taken at school or at home.
